Victorian Styled Shoot | Columbia, KY

When I saw almost a year ago that a new wedding venue was being built in central Kentucky, overlooking beautiful Green River Lake, I couldn’t wait to go take pictures! But I did have to wait. See, it was a labor of love. The family was building it themselves, even from drawing up their own plans, cutting down their own trees and milling their own lumber. If you want to see the beginning of their journey, visit their Instagram at lakeview_barn_and_lodge.

Even though they’ve already had several photo sessions taken here, we still wanted to plan a styled shoot to show what all this place has to offer. Which is A LOT! Even with all the planning, I didn’t find out until that day that the model for the groom in this styled shoot was going to use this day to propose to the owner’s daughter!!! If you want to read that story, you can read that blog here.

After that amazing surprise, it was time for them to get ready for the shoot we had actually planned. Because of the dress she had borrowed for the shoot, we went with a Victorian theme. Think Jane Austen. Think Bridgerton. Very elegant and classy.

While they were getting ready, I started with photos of the impressive Lakeview Barn itself. So lovely, it’s hard to believe this was the work of just one family! But on second thought, it makes perfect sense. The attention to detail is astounding. To make a place this beautiful, the project has to mean a lot to the builders. And Lakeview Barn and Lodge means so much to this family, who literally built it from the ground up.

All of this is the impression you get even before walking through the large, perfect front doors. The possibilities inside are endless. From a handcrafted bar to a loft with couches. To a unique ceiling fixture. Even the ground level couch against the window with a view was perfectly thought out.

The head table and a few of the others were designed by the wedding planner they have included in a few of their packages.

I love that each table was unique. Still with the timeless, elegant feel. But something different to enjoy each place you looked. I got a little lost in it and almost expected Mr. Carson or another member of Downton Abbey to start serving the dinner soon.

And when the back doors are open, just look at that view you can have while dining! Now it was time to head outside to see a few more of the gems on this property. One of the most notable is the giant wreath overlooking the Green River Lake. Even just this alone would be reason enough to plan a wedding at this gorgeous venue.

There isn’t a view like this just anywhere. Usually you have to travel to a faraway destination and enter a national park to see something this beautiful. But in the hills of Kentucky, with our gorgeous lakes and lush foliage, we get to experience these things firsthand. The owners did the work of clearing this section so others could enjoy this amazing view with them.

Can’t you just imagine walking out the side door of the barn, down the porch, and seeing your loved one standing there waiting for you? When they realize their life is about to change for the better and tears come to theirs eyes…

A perfect place to watch your friends or family members marry the love of their life. Or to get swept off your feet yourself. Now off to another part of the property for some bride and groom photos.

And one of the coolest parts?!! They have a tree swing! This has been a favorite feature for all sessions so far. And we know it will continue to be a favorite for the many brides to come.

It’s the perfect backdrop, whether for closeup or full length photos. To get the dreamy greenery in the background.

Back inside the barn, they have the perfect spot for your wedding cake. They made the most unique tiered stand I have ever seen. And the cake they put on top of it…to die for! I hate to say it, but I definitely had more than my share of this cake. Absolutely delicious!

It was then time for the first dance underneath the beautiful homemade chandelier. Knowing that he had just proposed to her and that she would be standing in this exact spot sometime in the next year, dancing with this man she loves so much…it was very surreal. I might have cried a little. Anyone who knows me will not be shocked by the last sentence. What made it extra special is that my husband had put down his camera and was now serenading them for their first dance. That didn’t help with the tears.

If you look closely in the background of the last photo, you can see the owners looking on, admiring their daughter and soon to be son-in-law. All of their hard work will be worth it when their daughter gets to marry her best friend right here. When they aren’t playing dress up for a styled shoot. Sometimes real life is even better than pretend.

Time to go back to the wreath for a few final photos now that the sun has gone down. It’s beautiful during the day, but just magical at night, with the lights twinkling down.

Best wishes, Kevin and Reneé
